Child Sponsorship Eritrea
Eritrea Child Sponsorship

Eritrea is one of the poorest countries in the world: most of the population lives in rural villages in conditions of extreme economic and social hardship. This poverty affects women and children in particular. Women, due to the prolonged absence of husbands forced to military conscription, find themselves assuming the entire responsibility of the family. For these mothers, still subject to socio-cultural discrimination and forced to abandon their studies to join in early marriages, it is nevertheless incredibly difficult to achieve economic independence and, despite enormous efforts and hard work, guarantee a daily meal, care and education to numerous children. Many children are therefore forced to help the family, working in the fields, devoting themselves to looking after stock and, if girls, taking care of the collection of wood and household chores. For them there is no time to go to school, for knowledge or to play, so they soon become small adults.
With the Child Sponsorship, we want to help families in extreme poverty and provide the youngest with proper nutrition, medical care, education and a more serene environment grow in.
In Eritrea all sponsorships are included in the project.
“Growing together” project, which started in 2010, and is committed to supporting 17 children from Asmara and various rural villages in the country. Support is directly aimed at children, but indirectly families and the whole community are involved.
